LJMU Student Will Barlow joins Studley as part of his Product Design Engineering Degree
Welcome Will!
Will Barlow started his University Placement Year with Studley in July 2017. He will spend the year working closely with our Estimating and Project Management Departments, using his knowledge of Computer Aided Design (CAD) to help us in many areas of the business. We hope to help Will gain as much experience as possible in his academic field, whilst also looking forward to having our first CAD Drafter in the company.
Speaking about his Degree and Placement year with us, Will says:
“I have just finished my second year at Liverpool John Moores University, where I study Product Design Engineering. My course is a ‘sandwich course’ meaning that I get to spend a year out of university working within a company to gain more experience in my academic field.
I am excited to have gained a placement at Studley’s and during my time here I will be taking on the role of a CAD Drafter. I will work closely with the Estimating and Project Management teams where I will create Piping Isometric Drawings, Job Cost Estimations, Material Counts and Material Orders.
I am also learning how to use AutoCAD Plant 3D, which is used to create a 3D representation of Piping Systems and Factory Environments. This software will then enable me to generate isometric drawings to be used as 3D visual aids upon the creation of piping systems. Because of this, I get to visit different client sites where Studley work to gather measurements of existing pipework and experience more of the Mechanical Engineering environment.”
